The Project
As an architect, Sam Chermayeff needed images that showed not just his face, but his relationship to the work itself. Together, we planned a shoot in a building he designed, and his studio which happens to be in the same place.
Surrounded by models of future projects, reclining under a lamp he designed, or framed by the concrete walls and natural light of his own architecture, I created a series of portraits that put him in direct relationship with his work.
The result is a cohesive set of portraits that grounds his practice in something concrete: not just a portrait of an architect, but a portrait of the work itself, at every stage — from the buildings he's completed to the architectural models and light he shapes within them.
